At Prolific, we are redefining what an agency can be by partnering with leading brands to solve hard problems and build world-class products. Our approach to these partnerships has evolved over the years and was significantly influenced by our engagement five years ago with ModCloth, the vintage-inspired online retailer.
In March 2012 I crossed paths with Fiona O’Donnell McCarthy, ModCloth’s Product Manager, at a Ghostland Observatory concert at SXSW. ModCloth was scaling quickly (one of Inc. 500’s fastest growing companies in the country) and their mobile web traffic was growing rapidly. They needed to quickly spin up a team to explore their mobile opportunity, design a delightful and high-converting user experience, and engineer a reliable and scalable app.
We quickly hit it off at the concert, nerding out over mobile strategy, eCommerce, agile development and our shared desire to constantly push the boundary of what is possible. As a result of this chance encounter, Prolific eventually partnered with ModCloth to build their first mobile eCommerce experience later that year. When we started, I had no idea how much this experience would shape the future of Prolific.
Working together, Fiona and I quickly realized that the best way to ensure a successful partnership was to embed our designers, engineers, and product manager (me in this case) in their SF office to collaborate closely with the tech team at ModCloth. Our designers and engineers brought their mobile expertise to the table and Fiona and her team helped to guide our strategy and user research, manage their internal stakeholders, and navigate their technical infrastructure.

The release of the ModCloth iPhone and iPad apps, with their resulting check-out conversion increases and several features in the Apple App Store, were the first signs that our dedicated Product Team approach needed to be the new standard. I learned an incredible amount from Fiona during our ModCloth engagement and I’m thrilled to announce she is now joining the Prolific team as our VP of Product.
Following her time at ModCloth, Fiona went on to co-found a eCommerce-focused startup backed by True Ventures and First Round Capital and subsequently was Director of Product Management at Handshake, a B2B-focused eCommerce platform. As part of the leadership team at Prolific, she will help refine the Prolific service offering and build our product management team as we bring our Product Team model to more and more partners during this next phase of growth.
The Prolific Product Team model we prototyped at ModCloth has enabled us to tackle huge growth opportunities for some of the best retail and consumer brands in the world. I am delighted to welcome Fiona back to help shape the next stage of our shared vision of redefining what an agency can be.
